De zuivelsector speelt een prominente rol en is vooral bekend om zijn methaanuitstoot door enterische fermentatie. Minder besproken maar ook belangrijk zijn methaanemissies door vervluchtiging in mest, lachgasemissies door bemesting en koolstofdioxide-emissies door brandstofgebruik en veranderingen in landgebruik.<\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">Ongeveer 70 tot 90% van de koolstofvoetafdruk van een zuivelproduct, zoals kaas of yoghurt, is afkomstig van de productie van rauwe melk op de boerderij [1]. Ongeveer 75% van deze voetafdruk voor rauwe melk is gerelateerd aan voer- en teeltmanagement, dat op zijn beurt meer dan 50% van de totale bedrijfskosten op een melkveebedrijf bepaalt.<\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">Zuivelverwerkers over de hele wereld, waaronder enkele in Vlaanderen en Nederland, hebben verklaard dat ze de uitstoot van broeikasgassen op melkveebedrijven met 30% willen verminderen tegen 2030, met als bijkomend doel het bereiken van een netto nuluitstoot tegen 2050 [2]. Deze ambitieuze plannen zullen een aanzienlijke impact hebben op de economische en technische prestaties van het melkveebedrijf.<\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">Farmdesk Climate pakt deze uitdaging aan door melkveehouders onderweg positief te stimuleren. Onze oplossing is niet een extra administratieve last, maar geeft meerwaarde aan melkveehouders door het aanbieden van een slimme voer assistent, inzicht in technische en economische prestatie indicatoren (KPI&rsquo;s), vergelijkingen met andere melkveehouders, en meer. Broeikasgasemissies en andere prestatie-indicatoren worden op dagelijkse basis berekend en bijgewerkt. Nuttig voor zuivelverwerkers en andere belanghebbenden (zoals veevoer- en zaadbedrijven, bedrijfsadviseurs&hellip;) om emissies te analyseren en te rapporteren.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-2fc5825 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"2fc5825\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Methode<\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f0a0d89 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"f0a0d89\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"translation-block\">In deze eerste publicatie presenteren we de koolstofvoetafdruk van Farmdesk&rsquo;s onderzoeksboerderij over 2023, berekend met behulp van de Farmdesk Climate tool.<\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">Het onderzoeksbedrijf van Farmdesk ligt in Vlaanderen. In 2023 werd een totaal melkvolume van 896.152 liter geleverd aan de zuivelfabriek. De gemiddelde melkproductie was 10.733 kilogram standaardmelk (FPCM) per koe per jaar. Gemiddeld werden er 79 koeien per dag gemolken, naast 11 droogstaande koeien en 49 stuks jongvee. Het teeltplan bestond uit 20,8 ha gras zonder beweiding, 20,5 ha ma&iuml;s (waarvan 2,2 ha als ccm werd geoogst) met gras als voorteelt en 2,2 ha voederbieten. De maximaal toegestane dierlijke mest werd op alle velden toegediend, uitgebreid met standaard NP-bemesting en bekalking. Ongeveer 80% van de geproduceerde mest was vloeibare drijfmest die werd opgeslagen in putten onder de stallen en in bovengrondse mesttanks. De resterende 20% was vaste mest die werd verzameld in strobeddingen die regelmatig werden verwijderd en opgeslagen op niet-afgesloten hopen.<\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">Voeropnames werden verzameld via de Farmdesk app (die effectieve geleverde kilogrammen van de voermengwagen verzamelt) met een minimale updatefrequentie van &eacute;&eacute;n keer per week. De melkpoeder consumptie van de kalveren voor het spenen werd ingevoerd door de veehouder. Tankmelkophalingen, teeltplannen, dieraantallen en voederlab rapporten werden automatisch verzameld via verschillende datakoppelingen.<\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">In totaal werd 42.000 kWh elektriciteit verbruikt, waarvan 20.000 kWh werd geproduceerd door zonnepanelen op het bedrijf. De individuele emissies van de broeikasgassen methaan (CH<sub>4<\/sub>), lachgas (N<sub>2<\/sub>O) en koolstofdioxide (CO<sub>2<\/sub>) worden berekend volgens de geldende richtlijnen en standaarden (IDF global carbon footprint for the dairy sector; (IPCC 2019 Refinement to the) 2006 IPCC guidelines for National Greenhouse Gas Inventories Volume 4: Agriculture, Forestry and other land).<\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">In deze publicatie worden alle resultaten uitgedrukt in gram CO<sub>2<\/sub>-equivalenten per kilogram standaardmelk (g CO<sub>2<\/sub>-eq\/kg FPCM), waarbij GWP-factoren van 27 voor methaan en 273 voor lachgas werden gebruikt [3]. Conform de IDF-richtlijnen werd een allocatiefactor voor melk versus vlees berekend, met een waarde van 87,2% als resultaat.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6e7d715 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"6e7d715\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Resultaten &amp; bespreking<\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e35d54f elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"e35d54f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"translation-block\">In de onderstaande figuur toont de bovenste grafiek de maandelijkse emissies in g CO<sub>2<\/sub>-eq\/kg FPCM. De schommelingen tussen de verschillende maanden worden voornamelijk veroorzaakt door relatieve verschillen in melkproductie, zoals te zien is in de middelste grafiek. De voerwinst is de belangrijkste prestatie maatstaf voor de winstgevendheid van het bedrijf en is afhankelijk van zowel de melkprijs als de voerkosten.<\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">In het ringdiagram hieronder zijn de emissies onderverdeeld in vijf hoofdbronnen. De totale broeikasgasemissie over 2023 was gemiddeld 1091 g CO<sub>2<\/sub>-eq\/kg FPCM. Change<\/em>) en eigen geteelt voer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">Er bestaan reductiestrategie&euml;n met voederadditieven of mestverwerking, echter zijn deze moeilijk uit te voeren of brengen ze hoge kosten met zich mee. Het is interessant om alternatieve strategie&euml;n te onderzoeken, zoals het verhogen van de eigen voederproductie, het verminderen van chemische bemesting, koolstofvastlegging of het optimaliseren van de melkgift, samen met hun effect op de winstgevendheid. Dit benadrukt het belang van het meten van de voerwinst van het bedrijf (zoals hierboven weergegeven).<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f1bfd65 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"f1bfd65\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Conclusie<\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a33dffd elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"a33dffd\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"translation-block\">In deze casestudie werd de koolstofvoetafdruk van een typisch Vlaams landbouwbedrijf berekend met behulp van de Farmdesk Climate tool. Het resultaat over alle twaalf maanden in 2023 was 1091 g CO<sub>2<\/sub>-eq\/kg FPCM, met een minimum van 981 g CO<sub>2<\/sub>-eq\/kg FPCM in maart en een maximum van 1211 g CO<sub>2<\/sub>-eq\/kg FPCM in september.<\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">De zuivelindustrie heeft ambitieuze reductiedoelstellingen vastgelegd tegen 2030. Om deze doelen te bereiken, geloven wij stellig dat het essentieel is om melkveehouders onderweg te stimuleren en om naast het berekenen van de koolstofvoetafdruk ook de winstgevendheid van het bedrijf en andere belangrijke prestatie-indicatoren te monitoren.
